National Law University Delhi - NLU Delhi

The National Law University (NLU), New Delhi was established in 2008 and is counted among the best law universities in India. The primary objective of the University is to evolve and impart comprehensive and interdisciplinary legal education that is socially relevant. Through this education, we aim to promote legal and ethical values and foster the rule of law and the objectives enshrined in the Constitution of India.

NLU Delhi Courses

B.A.LL.B. (Hons.)
Eligibility:
i. All candidates, excluding candidates coming under Foreign Nationals category, should appear for the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) and selection shall be solely on that basis.
ii. Candidates should score a minimum of 40% of the marks in the AILET (30% for SC/ ST candidates)
iii. To appear for the AILET, candidates should have completed their10+2 examination and scored a minimum of 50% marks. However, candidates appearing for 10+2 examinations in the year of the AILET can also apply, provided they meet the above eligibility at the time of admission.

Number of Seats
i. The University admits 80 students every year to the B.A.LL.B. (Hons.).
ii. 10 seats are set aside for Foreign Nationals.
iii. Of the remaining seats (70), 15% are reserved for Scheduled Castes, 7.5% for Scheduled Tribe, 5% for Persons with Disabilities.

Apart from above 3 seats are supernumerary as follows:
1 seat is reserved for migrants from Kashmir.
2 seats are reserved for residents of Jammu and Kashmir

LL.M. Regulations
Eligibility:
i. To be eligible to appear for admission to One year- LL.M. Programme, a candidate should have passed the LL.B or an equivalent degree from a recognised University with not less than 55% marks in aggregate (50% in case of reserved categories, i.e. SC/ST/Persons with Disability).
ii. The admission for Foreign Nationals shall be made on the basis of:
(a) academic record of LL.B. or equivalent Degree recognized by UGC/ Association of Indian universities with not less than 55% marks or equivalent grade.
(b) assessment of necessary communication skills in written and spoken English and performance at the interview in terms of aptitude and capacity.
  
LL.M (Pro.) Programme Regulations
The LL.M (Pro) programme will be a Masters degree programme conducted through a mixed mode of distance education and contact learning. Candidates who have completed their graduation, in any discipline, with a minimum of 50% marks and has been in service, or has had professional experience for a minimum of three years will be eligible to enrol for the programme. The students currently enrolled in the LL.M., Ph.D. or any other programme at NLU Delhi shall not be eligible to apply for the LL.M.(Pro.) programme.

Ph.D.
To be admitted for a doctoral degree program candidate should fulfil the following eligibility criteria: 
i. Candidates should have completed their master's degree in law or an equivalent professional degree scoring a minimum of 55% aggregate marks or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.
Or
ii. Obtained a degree in law and Master’s Degree with M. Phil. in social sciences or humanities of any recognised university with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed). Provided that candidates with qualifications in social sciences and humanities may be admitted to the programme if the research they wish to pursue interfaces with the discipline of law with a special focus on Public Policy or Law. 

For the above two categories, a relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time, or for those who had obtained their Master's degree prior to 19th September, 1991. The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures.
Or
Candidates possessing a Degree in law and Master’s Degree considered equivalent to M.Phil. Degree of an Indian Institution, from a Foreign Educational Institution accredited as per UGC Regulations shall be eligible for admission to Ph.D. programme.
Or
Degree in law and Ph.D. in any discipline.
Or
Judge of any State High Court in India with three years’ experience or Judge of Supreme Court of India.
Or
A foreign student, who is interested to enroll from outside India from reputed University/Institutions may be allowed to be registered for Ph.D. in National Law University Delhi subject to the condition that one supervisor will be from the National Law University Delhi and one from the parent foreign University/Institutions of the student. He /She will be exempted from appearing in the Entrance Test subject to the condition that he/she fulfills the other minimum eligibility conditions. The Vice-Chancellor will be competent to allow registration of such students on case to case basis on the recommendations of Doctoral Committee. The student will be required to visit National Law University Delhi for Viva-Voce to defend his/her Thesis as per University Regulations.

The Vice-Chancellor may permit a member of the NLU, Delhi faculty to take up Ph.D. Degree course along with his / her teaching assignment in the interest of faculty improvement on the condition that his / her teaching and other responsibilities are not hampered in any way provided such candidates fulfill the conditions prescribed in the Ph.D. Regulations.

One Year/Two Years Bridge Course
Two years/One year Bridge Course for candidates who have obtained LL.B. Degree from Foreign Universities.  Candidates who have obtained Three Years LL.B. Degree will undertake Two Years Bridge Course and those who have obtained Four Years LL.B. Degree will undertake One Year Bridge Course.

The programme shall include following subjects as Compulsory Papers:

Criminal Procedure of Law
Civil Procedure Code and Limitation Act
Indian Law of Evidence
Property Law
Professional Ethics
Option papers (To be chosen by the student as per the requirement of course).

ii. Post Graduate Diploma in Tourism and Environmental Laws (PGDTEL)

NLU Delhi Application Process

All the eligible candidates will be able to apply for National Law University, Delhi through All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) for admission to its B.A, LL.B (Hons.),  LL.M and Ph.D Programmes.
